Our story
Saw dust in the lungs.
Craftsmanship in the heart.
Mitre Box is a Pittsburgh shop with a simple belief: a van should be built like fine furniture. We've been making things for over a decade, and somewhere along the way, the things we make grew wheels.
From wood to wheels
It all started with the wood.
Before there were vans, there were bookmatched oak slabs, walnut wine racks, and built-ins for homes and restaurants across the city. That's where the standard came from: tight joints, clean lines, no shortcuts.
When the first van rolled into the shop, we treated it the same way. Turns out, the same hands that build a heirloom table build a hell of a camper.
The road so far
A decade of building.
It starts at the bench: custom furniture, live-edge tables, wine racks, and fixtures for Pittsburgh restaurants like Morcilla and The Commoner.
Laser-cut art, waterjet steel handles, truck campers. The work gets more ambitious, and the vans start rolling in.
The hot-rod Dodge. The shop fills with Sprinters. Van conversion becomes the heart of the business.
Full custom conversions, community builds, and a growing lineup of signature packages, all still built by hand in the burgh.
Built for the burgh
More than vans.
Some of our proudest builds aren't for the open road at all. We helped Blanket & Board turn a double-decker bus into a mobile gathering space, and built a mobile boutique for Dress for Success Pittsburgh.
We've got a shop dog, a kid named Aza Bear who's growing up in this trade, and a whole lot of Pittsburgh pride. Welcome to Vansylvania.
